Information for Speakers

Speakers: Thank you for agreeing to make a presentation to the Nittany Mineralogical Society. Our meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month with an in-person audience. Social hour starts at 7:00 p.m., business meeting and announcements at 7:45, and the featured speaker's presentation starts at 8:00 p.m. The presentation should run for about 45 minutes, followed by time for questions.

As soon as we've put you on our schedule, we would like to start advance publicity, so please provide to the editor:

  • the title of your presentation;
  • your name and any titles and affiliations as you would like them to appear; and
  • a brief description (two or three sentences) of the presentation.
Our monthly Bulletin appears the week before the meeting. We would be happy to print any writeup, including illustrations with captions and credits, as much or as little as you would like, up to several pages. This would be needed about 10 days before the meeting. Please be careful to avoid using materials, including illustrations, which state that they are copyrighted. Illustrations should be of sufficient resolution to look good in print (at least 1000 pixels wide) and are best provided as separated image files (high quality JPEG, etc.). Any typeface or markings in the illustrations should be large enough to be legible if the illustration is 3.5" wide (or discuss with the editor).

We are no longer Zooming the meetings, but do record the program for later posting on our web site, but only with permission of the speaker. Please let us know in advance whether we may record/post the meeting.

If you're doing a PowerPoint or similar computer presentation, you'll need a computer with a standard (full-size) HDMI output to connect to the projector. If yours doesn't have that, contact us in advance; you can bring your presentation file on a USB drive, and we can provide a laptop.
